Every Christ the Redeemer ticket is two things in one: the ride up Corcovado and entry to the monument at the top. There is no gate at street level and no separate entry ticket to add, so what you are choosing is the ride.
Two tickets cover most visitors: the official Corcovado train from Cosme Velho, and the national park’s official van from Copacabana. They are the only two ways up that carry passengers.
Book with two things in mind: cloud can hide the statue for hours, so look at the summit’s live camera before you go, and the escalator works have halved the number of people allowed at the top, so the early slots go first.

There is no walk-up entrance at street level. Everyone starts at one of these.

Twenty minutes of Atlantic forest with the city showing through gaps in the trees, ending at a platform below the statue. Expect a queue to board even with a timed ticket, and check in 40 minutes before.

Why book ahead
- Train tickets are for a boarding time, and with the cap on numbers at the top the morning times go first
- A booked ticket means you arrive knowing your time, instead of finding out at the window what is left
- The train ticket costs nothing to hold until 24 hours before, so booking early is also the cheapest weather insurance there is
Ticket types
Entry ticket by Corcovado train
The ticket most people buy. It includes the train up from Cosme Velho station and back, entry to the monument and access to the viewing terraces. Food, drink and transport to the station are not included, and there is no guide.

The alternative when you are staying near the beach or the train is full. It includes the return ride in the official Paineiras Corcovado van from Praça do Lido, entry to the monument and access to the Paineiras Visitor Centre on the way. Food and a guide are not included.

Christ the Redeemer tickets for children
The age bands are not the same on every ticket, which catches families out. Check the one you are buying.
- Train ticket: adult 12 and over, child 7 to 11, and 6 and under free. A free child still needs a place on the booking and a document showing their age, and rides on an adult’s lap
- Van ticket from Copacabana: one participant type for everyone, so there is no child option to pick
- Most guided tours: adult from 11, child 3 to 10, and 2 and under free, again added to the booking
- The Selarón Steps and Tijuca day is different: adult from 6, and one child ticket for 5 and under. There is no separate infant band
- The half day with Sugarloaf is different again: adult from 13, child 3 to 12, and 2 and under free
Carry photo ID or a birth certificate for each child whichever you buy, because the age is checked.
Guided visit to Christ the Redeemer with pick-up
A four-hour visit to the statue and nothing else, which is rare among Rio tours. You are collected from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle, driven up through Tijuca Forest to the Paineiras Visitor Centre, and transferred to the park’s own van for the last stretch. Entry is included, food and drink are not.

The same Corcovado train ticket from Tiqets
Tiqets sells the train ride and entry as well. You receive a smartphone ticket from its local partner, which is the one to show at the station, and the partner confirms your departure time. Tiqets asks you to arrive 30 minutes before it. While the works are on, allow the 40 minutes the railway asks for.

Christ the Redeemer group bookings
There is no group ticket and no group rate through either partner. Each person needs a ticket, children included, and with fewer places at the top a large party should book as soon as its date is fixed. Keep everyone on one booking so the boarding time is shared.

Where to buy official Christ the Redeemer tickets
Online: the train ticket or the van ticket from Copacabana. Both arrive by email and are shown on your phone.
On the day: the railway sells its own tickets at Cosme Velho station and the van operator sells its own at each boarding point, for whatever times are left. With numbers at the top capped, treat that as a fallback and not a plan. Walkers are the exception, because the ticket office at the top is the only place they can buy entry.
A word on the word “official”. The Corcovado railway and the Paineiras Corcovado vans are the official transport to the monument, and they are the only vehicles the national park allows on the road up. The tickets on this page are those operators’ own tickets, sold through GetYourGuide and Tiqets, who are authorised to sell them.
What we are is an independent guide, not the monument’s own shop: we do not issue tickets, and we take a commission when you book through the links here. If a site tells you it is the official seller, check whose name is on the ticket you are actually buying.

Pick the ride, then the day
Train or van first. Then choose a day with some slack after it, so a cloudy forecast does not cost you the visit.
Choose a boarding time
Morning for clear air and the sun on the statue’s face, mid-afternoon onwards for fewer people. Our guide to the best times to visit has the detail.
Add everyone, including infants
Children of 6 and under are free but still need a place on the booking.
Check in early with original ID
At least 40 minutes before a train, 15 minutes before a van. Miss the railway’s check-in and you keep a ticket but lose the slot, boarding only when there is room.

Before you go
These are the operators’ and the park’s own rules, and they apply whichever ticket you hold.
- ID: an original passport or photo ID for each person. No copies.
- Bags: the train station has no left luggage, so bring only what you will carry all day.
- Pushchairs: they must stay folded for the whole train ride.
- Steps: while the escalators are out, the last stretch to the statue is about 80 stone steps after the lift. The overview page explains what is in place for wheelchair users.
- Weather: the railway and the vans can change their timetables without notice for weather or technical faults, and the monument stays open in cloud. Look at the summit’s live camera before you leave.
- Not allowed at the monument: drones, swimwear, climbing on the parapets, feeding the wildlife, and any animal other than a guide dog.
